EarthEra^® Connections

In April 2009, NextEra Energy Resources launched EarthEra, an initiative designed to give individuals, small businesses and large corporations an easy way to balance carbon impacts and help increase our domestic supply of wind and solar power. One year later, the program has exceeded our highest expectations with over $23 million being committed to the EarthEra Renewable Energy Trust. Every penny will help build new renewable energy facilities in America.

In the past year, EarthEra programs have helped our partners balance the carbon footprint of everything from corporate facilities, to retail shipments, to large events including the 2010 Super Bowl and the Consumer Electronics Show. In fact, over 675,000 people have attended EarthEra carbon balanced events around the nation since April 2009. Through our web-based carbon calculator and instant memberships, our program has also given many individuals and small businesses a direct way to learn more and get involved.

As we all celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, we thank you for making our first anniversary just as special.

In honor of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, EarthEra has partnered with environmental nonprofit Earth Day NY to carbon balance Earth Week events in New York’s Times Square and Grand Central Terminal. On Earth Day, Pizza Fusion, a pioneer in the natural and organic restaurant movement, will announce a groundbreaking new partnership with EarthEra. Through the program, Pizza Fusion will balance 100% of the carbon emissions associated with restaurant energy use and, in an industry first, customer auto travel to and from local Pizza Fusion restaurants! EarthEra commitments to date will help balance over 8 billion lbs of carbon emissions, which according to the U.S. EPA, is equivalent to:

• The total annual energy use of over 320,000 homes
• The carbon sequestered by over 90 million tree seedlings grown for 10 years
• The annual carbon emissions of nearly an entire coal-fired power plant!
