Super Bowl Goes Super Green

Super Bowl 44EarthEra helped the NFL go green this past month during 2010 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl festivities in South Florida. The partnership included matching all of the electricity consumed at Sun Life Stadium during preparations and game days with 100% wind power.

"As you can imagine, the power demands of an NFL stadium are huge, and this year we are holding two games at one venue," said Jack Groh, director, NFL Environmental Program, prior to the games. "One way to reduce the carbon footprint of such an event is by using renewable power."

EarthEra also gave football fans the opportunity to follow the example set by the NFL with a special fan section on EarthEra.com. By visiting the website, football fans discovered eco-friendly tips for the big game including a direct way to reduce the carbon footprint of personal Super Bowl parties.

"Teaming up with the NFL to reduce the carbon emissions of these two high profile events was an exciting opportunity for us," said Nate Hanson, Vice President, NextEra Energy Resources. "We applaud the NFL for supporting renewable energy development and sharing this initiative with their large fan base."

Over 150,000 football fans attended the 2010 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl games. This was the fourth year in a row that the NFL used renewable energy to power the Super Bowl and related events and the first year for the Pro Bowl.
